Your model seems viable, even given that we are not dealing with the same generation of individuals affected by the Great Depression.

Are you seeking funding?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14675311.post-12555913134697536632007-01-18T08:31:00.000-08:002007-01-18T08:31:00.000-08:00The response to Katrina was entirely unimaginate. ...The response to Katrina was entirely unimaginate. The invisible hand was going to step in an care for us.

We are suffering from a lack of leadership at every level.

A woman that I work with, Pat Evans of UNO, loves to decry the lack of a "call to service". People have been pouring hours of free labor at New Orleans, people do want to work, but there is absolutely no leadership.Alan Gutierrezhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05978166876555048148noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14675311.post-74024244022234537472007-01-18T08:16:00.000-08:002007-01-18T08:16:00.000-08:00In the dark days after Katrina, I had hoped to see...In the dark days after Katrina, I had hoped to see something like this. It is inspiring to see someone articulate this vision at last. I need to study this more to make sure I truly understand it, but my gut instinct is this is just what we need. Right now I wanted to say: Thank you, on behalf of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14675311.post-87627512798254282062006-11-20T06:30:00.000-08:002006-11-20T06:30:00.000-08:00Very well said! What better way for the community of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast to feel empowered by rebuilding their homes themselves. You've got my support!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14675311.post-54348334983442757742006-11-19T07:15:00.000-08:002006-11-19T07:15:00.000-08:00Since this proposal is obviously modeled very much...Since this proposal is obviously modeled very much on the New Deal practices of the 1930s, the proposal needs to build on this legacy by getting the support of key Democratic members of Congress from the Gulf Coast region but also socially conscious Congress members from elsewhere in the country (not excluding independents and Republicans). The flip side of this is to identify and gain the support of local grassroots groups working for social justice both in the Gulf Coast region and nationally. Such groups could help garner congressional support. A direct government/people link will help prevent this or any rebuilding effort from becoming a scam for big profits by big corporations.LeRoy Moorehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07170478523087744740noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14675311.post-15575132187886809762006-11-15T13:29:00.000-08:002006-11-15T13:29:00.000-08:00It is interesting that you bring up the precedent ...It is interesting that you bring up the precedent in this country for putting people to work in times of need. I wonder what it takes for the government to step up and fulfill its responsibility to provide for its citizens. In a just society, the solution sounds like a no brainer. Sadly we live in a society in which the state places the responsibility of providing for its people on the private sector. This is clearly something that needs to change.Salenahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05086074183771773405noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14675311.post-33732091938092526902006-11-13T18:56:00.000-08:002006-11-13T18:56:00.000-08:00hello professor! i just thought i would inform you...hello professor! i just thought i would inform you over what i have spend the last few hours doing...i took your hand-out and posted it on sites i know many sjsu students and other students from around the country view quite often...of course giving you due credit and attaching your blog site for them to leave you their support/comments/suggestion. hopefully this vision will go beyond words on paper to actions done my all. i also emailed it to everyone i know family, students, professors etc. hopefully people begin to see the seriousness of the proposal and support the vision.victoriahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04831023487886419391noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-14675311.post-26295647580923844262006-11-12T21:00:00.000-08:002006-11-12T21:00:00.000-08:00This is a great idea! How do we convince others that this should not be a job for private contractors? How does America feel knowing that New Orleans is turning from a predominantly black city to a white one?Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
